2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona

The 49th 2011 Rolex 24 at Daytona gave race fans across the United States a reason to forget about the snow and cold.    3:30pm Saturday January 29th -> 3:30pm Sunday January 30th. Daytona International Speedway.

Among our favorites:

in the DP category:
#45 Flying Lizard Porsche Riley six-cylinder
    drivers Jorg Bergmeister / Patrick Long / Seth Neiman / Johannes Van Overbeek
#45 started in first place with Jorg driving. At around 21:49 remaining, to avoid a Ferrari that had spun out, Seth goes into the grass which causes some damage that forces him to pit. They are 19 laps down when they return with a replaced splitter, in 18th (last) place in DP. With 19:23 remaining, #45 is in 15th place in DP, with Bergmeister driving thru the field.
Later in the evening, with Patrick Long driving, #45 is running in 14th place in DP with 17:56 remaining.
Sunday morning, with 6:30 left, Johannes is running in 12th place in DP.   With 4:39 remaining, Jorg Bergmeister is running in 11th place. Still in 11th with 2:21 remaining. Jorg still driving with 1:30 left to race when #45 catches fire. Jorg pulls over and the stewards put the fire out. #45 is out with 1hr 30minutes remaining.

#59 is in 3rd place in GT with 21:30 remaining with Leh Keen driving. Two hours later, #59 is in 2nd place with 19:23 remaining, with Leib at the helm.   With 18:50 remaining, Leib is leading GT.  With 17:56 remaining, they've fallen back into 3rd place in GT.  With 5:12 remaining, they have fallen back into 7th place, 13 laps behind the GT leading #67. In 5th place in GT with Lieb driving and 1:49 left to race. Still in 5th with 1:03 remaining, Davis driving.

#67 is in 4th place with 19:23 remaining. Andy Lally is driving.   They are in 2nd place with 17:56 remaining. Sunday morning at 9:00am, with 6:30 remaining, they are in 2nd place with Andy Lally driving. Early Sunday morning, intense fog causes the race to proceed under a safety car from 5:30am to approximately 8:15am. In 1st place with 1:03 remaining, Andy Lally driving.

#66 TRG Porsche 911 GT3 Cup
    drivers Dominik Farnbaccher / Ben Keating / Lucas Luhr
#66 started in 1st place with Dominik Farnbacher driving. At about 21:49 remaining, while avoiding a Ferrari that had spun in front of him, Ben Keating goes thru the grass which causes some damage which forces him to pit.  Sun sets with 21:30 remaining. By 21:00 remaining it is dark. (~6:30pm). Fog during the early morning causes a 2+ hour safety car. (!) With 6:30 remaing at 9:00am, #66 is in 5th place. With 2:17 remaining, #66 pits with problems.

2009

The American Le Mans Series celebrates its 100th race at Sebring International Raceway on March 21, with round 1 of the 2009 season. The annual running of the 12 Hours of Sebring is the premier motor racing event in the United States.

26 cars, 20 teams, and 74 drivers from 22 countries are competing in 2009.
