weight
of fuel
While water weighs 8.33 pounds per gallon, gasoline weighs only about 3/4 as
much as water.
So, a gallon of gasoline weighs about 6.1 pounds. Race fuel is slightly lighter
than regular gas.
Therefore, if you're burning a half-gallon per lap, you'll be about 3 pounds
lighter each lap.
elevation and horsepower
at 5000', an engine produces 84% of its HP at sea level
at 10000' an engine produces 70% of its HP at sea level
(corresponds to oxygen in atmosphere at those elevations)
Every 1000' in elevation adds ~ 0.1 seconds to a 1/4 mile time
estimate HP from 1/4 mile time
HP = (mph/234)^3 x weight (in pounds)
